Making Claims
To make a home, fire and natural disaster claim, you call 1-800-800-3030 and you will get a Spanish speaking operator.  They can transfer you immediately to an English speaking representative.  Deductibles are constant for Costa Rican home owners insurance.  For coverages C and D, the deductible is 1% of the total value of all things insured of 50,000 colones, whichever is higher.  For coverage B the deductible is 20,000 colones.

To make a theft claim the INS requires that you call the police first.  The police will inspect  the scene and take down a list of stolen items.  The police report with a list of stolen items is mandatory for the INS to reimburse their insured!  The next thing you do is call the insurance toll free number to make a claim.  It typically takes three months or more to get payment for your claim.  The deductible is 10% of the value of the items stolen.  For the damage caused by breaking and entering, the payments are made up to 5% of the total value of the policy.
